• OBJECTIVES:
  • Construct antiderivatives and evaluate definite and indefinite integrals using appropriate integration techniques.
  • Apply integration techniques to problems involving area, volume, mass, center of mass, and work.
  • Construct and use Taylor and Maclaurin polynomials to approximate functions.
  • Perform vector operations and utilize the dot product and cross product in several applications.
  • Compute, interpret, and apply partial derivatives to multivariable optimization problems.
  • Set up, evaluate, and apply double and triple integrals to geometric problems.

• PREREQUISITES: MATH 1450.
• BOOK: Hughes-Hallett, et al., Calculus, 8th edition, Wiley 2021 with Wiley PLUS.
• CALCULATOR: Students are expected to have a calculator with CAS ability.
• GRADES will be determined by performance on exams, quizzes, discussion activities, and WileyPLUS.
  • There are four exams: EX1, EX2, EX3, and a final EX4, in total worth 400 points. Although the individual exams are worth 100, 100, 100, and 150 points, the lowest percentage score will be reduced as follows. If EX1, EX2, or EX3, it will be halved (say from 58/100 to 29/50). If EX4, then reduced by a third (say from 66/150 to 44/100).
  • 10 Quizzes, worth 100 points. Except for the final exam date and time (ours is on 4 May, see way below), see the TA calendar.
  • 12 Discussion activities, worth 55 points (we drop the lowest score). Except for the final exam date and time (ours is on 4 May, see way below), see the TA calendar.
  • WileyPLUS is worth 50 points. A WileyPLUS precentage of at least 80% is given the full 50 points..
  • Although the total sum of points equals 605, we even treat 600 as if it were perfect.
  • In case of inclement weather during finals week, the final exam will be canceled and grades calculated on the basis of the coursework the student has completed up to the cancellation.
  • Points to grade conversion. The following are MINIMUM guarantees:

• ATTENDANCE POLICY: You are expected to attend all classes for their full periods.
  MAKEUP OF MISSED WORK: Makeup of missed work that contributes to your final grade for reasons of absence not automatically recognized by Marquette University: My policy is NO, but then again I tend to give everybody a chance to make up work once.
