A brief informal description of the 04 Oct 1997 Linux installation attempt. Nine people were present, all from MSCS 206. We chose to install Slackware Linux from warrior:/home/ftp/pub/slackware/slakware onto a temporary machine (the future warrior machine) named guest. Last week we had a test run installation with Michael Dietrich and Chunyi Song. At that time the boot disk scsinet.s and root disk color.gz were created. We also repartitioned the hard drive. This day we started at 1 PM, briefly discussing how to create the right boot and root disks, and after bootup how to partition the hard drive. We kept the setup of last week. Next, with Qiang Ma at the keyboard, we ran through the setup program and essentially installed the full linux release. For fun we also installed the machine on the web as guest, and logged in as root over the Net (just this once). Wei Li had the honor of shutting down guest over the Net. We were done by about 3:30 PM. Wim Ruitenburg
